Jean Piaget Lev Vygotsky Maria Montessori Reggio Emilia

Jean Piaget believes that children have an active role in their own cognitive development through active contact and positive communication with the surrounding environment. Jean Piaget’s educational methods emphasizes that playing is the primary form to help children develop their skills. Teachers act as the facilitors making a learning environment which is suitable for children’s age and development. This makes children encourage to actively play, thereby stimulating cognitive and social-emotional development.

Lev Vygotsky’s educational methods emphasizes the role of the social environment in children’s physical and mental development. Educator Lev Vygotsky believes that children’s development results from a dynamic interaction between individuals and society, cutural values. Accordingly, teachers play the role of mediating the child’s learning activity as they share knowledge through social interaction in guiding and supporting children. Teachers use cooperative learning exercises where less competent children develop with help from more skillful peers – within the zone of proximal development so as to help children fully develop their functions, psychology, and skills day by day.

The Montessori education method was founded by Doctor/Educator Maria Montessori, with the core meaning of training children to become independent and autonomous individuals. This method is applied in preschool through specific ways such as: practising self-serving skills by teaching children to put on their own shoes, fold blankets, clean toys…, classroom furniture suitable for children’s age, self-correcting materials help children complete tasks without (or little) help from others. In addition, in the class, the teacher only acts as a guide for children, encouraging children to freely operate, promoting self-discipline and independence.

Loris Malaguzzi – a psychologist and with a group of educational experts have researched and perfected the educational method of the people in Reggio, forming the Reggio Emilia educational method. This method focuses on using methods to stimulate curiosity, accompany children on their journey to discover the surrounding world, and respect children’s own ways of thinking and solving situations. Therefore, in Reggio classes, there are many toys with multi functions and diverse materials such as wood, stone, seashells, snail shells, seeds, leaves, paint, fabric, paper…

In VCN World, education is based on the needs, abilities, strengths, and interests of each child. It is very important for children to enjoy and develop their learning ability. Contrary to the traditional education method in which teachers speak, students listen, at VCN World, learning and playing activities are designed based on the existing foundation of children and the developmental needs of each stage. Teachers play an intermediary role in creating a suitable learning environment, preparing activities, learning materials, games, etc. for children to choose.

Learning through play is the main and throughout educational method of the VCN World education program for all classes at different ages. Learning through play is one of the effective education methods. Everyone can play and the game can be anywhere, anytime. At the same time, play is also a catalyst for children to discover about themselves and their surrounding environment. In the classrooms, children are facilitated learning through diverse and rich playing activities, attracting children’s curiosity, discovery and conquest.

By experiential learning method, children learn knowledge and information through practical experience, instead through books and pictures. For example, when learning about the ocean theme, children can visit Oceanography Institute to see sea creatures with their own eyes; with the theme of a fairy garden, children can manually sow seeds to plant trees and harvest vegetables in the garden; with the topic of careers, children can listen to their uncles and aunts telling about their work…

For classes of 3 to 4 years old, to practice teamwork and problem-solving skills, team work and project-based methods are applied regularly by VCN World Kindergarten. When children are ready with the necessary skills, learning by these methods helps them practice thinking and solving problems independently. In addition, learning in groups equips children with the ability to cooperate and coordinate with others to complete common tasks. Throughout this process, teachers closely monitor and support children (if necessary) for the best learning experience.

Teaching with love – an indispensable material if you want to educate and raise loving and kind children. At VCN World Kindergarten, love, respect, and encouragement are the top educational direction and also a guideline for the education journey of the School Board and teachers.

Integrated program

Study in Vietnamese with Vietnamese preschool teachers. Education program follow the preschool education program of Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training that integrates the advanced preschool program in the world. Children get acquainted with English 40 minutes a day with a local English teacher.

Half day studying in English based the preschool Global English program of Cambridge University (UK) and Doodle Town of MacMillan (USA) with the guidance of foreign teachers and local English teacher. Other half day studying in Vietnamese with Vietnamese teachers. Education program follows the preschool education program of Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training, refer in advanced preschool programs all over the world.
